Does a Movie Date Make Sense On The First
Date?
Though movies are often a wonderful experience and can lead
to stimulating conversations, a movie may not be the best
choice for a first date. This is because you may want to first
have a conversation with the person to evaluate if you want to
date further.
Many online dating sites advise using the one hour time
frame for your first meeting. If you are both movie fans, a
nice alternative to seeing a movie can be to talk about one on
your date. You can also decide to see a movie after you meet if
that comes up pontaneously.
What else may be a non-ideal suggestion for a first date? In
metropolitan areas, busy restaurants on a Friday and Saturday
night can be quite loud. Think about if it makes sense to go to
one that has crowded tables and bands because it can be quite
difficult to hear the person across from you.
If you find yourself seated at a restaurant that feels
sandwiched in by other tables, see if you can get an outside
table or a table in a less crowded section inside. To have to
shout to be heard is a strain and you'll already be under some
internal pressure on a first date. Why make things more
difficult in the communication process?
Another dating idea that may not be the best is to suggest a
sports activity if the person is not comfortable with sports or
athletic. For instance, mini golf may seem innocuous but it can
make someone insecure if they feel they do not have skills or
have two left feet. This is a good area to explore first before
confirming. However, if both people are comfortable with
sports, bowling or tennis can be a lot of fun.
Comfort levels are very individual so this is something to
explore in detail when planning a date. Keep in mind that some
people are "people pleasers" and may be agreeable to an idea
when they inside feel a bit squeamish.
Bear this in mind when you make plans and try to ask a
second time if it's really something they'd like to do. You can
also ask for other suggestions so you get ideas of what your
date would enjoy.
